I would like to share my experience with others who may be considering cataract surgery.

I am now 70 years old and developed cataracts relatively quickly over the past few years.  The first indication was that I was losing my night vision, and as time progressed found that my vision could not be corrected to previous levels.  My Optometric Physician, Dr. Richard Greene in St. Augustine referred me to the Nicolitz facility, and specifically to Dr. Nicolitz.

When I checked the internet regarding the facility and Dr. Nicolitz I found an outstanding physician of very high standing in the medical community.  The facilities recommendations were also excellent.  After my first visit, I understood exactly why.  The support staff is also truly excellent and well qualified.  All of the testing that was done to assure that the intraocular lenses would be exactly the right ones for my situation was performed to perfection using the latest measurement equipment available.  When I saw Dr. Nicolitz for the first time I found him to be very knowledgeable and interested in what would be best for me (I have relatively complicated vision issues) and all questions I had were answered to my compete satisfaction.

Another item I found to be of great importance is the precautions taken in the treatment plan to assure the least chance of complications.  The pre-surgery preparations such as being out of contact lenses for two weeks to insure accurate measurements and the best lens fit.  The same is true for the post-surgery follow-up including the medications and frequencies required to reduce the probability of complications.

I am now several weeks post-surgery with no complications whatsoever.  My vision has never been better at any time in my life.  I am no longer concerned about driving at night, and the colors I can now see are beautiful.  It is a pleasure to recommend the Nicolitz Eye facility to anyone who is thinking about cataract surgery, and I would be very comfortable using this facility for any other eye problems in which they specialize.

I had my surgery on 7/13/07 and it was the best thing I have ever done!!! There is nothing better than to wake up in the morning and be able to see the alarm clock. I love that I can go swimming at the beach and not have to worry about losing my contacts or wearing my ugly glasses. My surgical experience was great, Dr. Champion really took alot of time to make sure that I had the best results! Immediately after surgery I could see the clock in the surgery suite and that was very exciting!! My post operative care was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this surgery!! And I would do it again!!

Dear Dr. Nicolitz,

I want to thank you for doing eye surgery on me on March 15th.  Before I came to you, I was in great distress with all the strange things going on in my eyes for a long time.

I called my mother and asker her who was her Ophthalmologist and she gave me your name.

I am very pleased with the surgery and the implants.  A half a year later I can read with or without my glasses.  I leave you with this:
Jesus said:  “I am the way, the truth and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  (John 14:7)

Faithfully yours,
Donald R.

Dear Dr. Nicolitz, Dr. Brown and staff

I would like to express my sincere heart-felt gratitude to you and the entire staff of Nicolitz Eye Consultants. Your entire staff was courteous, friendly, and very professional. Since my surgery on my right eye on 2-16-2010 and my left eye on 3-2-2010, my eye-sight has improved beyond my expectations. It’s almost like seeing for the first time. I thank God for the wisdom and skills He has provided you and your entire team of nurses and staff for the works they do. My Multifocal Intraocular Lens was implanted during my cataract and astigmatism surgery at Southpoint Surgery Center which provided quality care and convenience. My overall experience with the procedure was excellent and would recommend Nicolitz Eye Consultants to anyone.

My sincere heart felt thanks

Dear Dr. Nicolitz Staff

During Jerry's recent eye problems you all were a great source of unwavering accessibility, care and kindness for which we will always be so very grateful.

Thanks to all of you from both of us.

We're still working toward a solution to the problem but it was all of you who got us through the worst.

Sincerely,

Sandi & Jerry
Dear Dr. Nicolitz,

You are the Best. After the surgery to my left eye I admit that I was very disappointed because I could not see as well as in my right eye. After all, the right eye surgery went so smoothly and perfectly, I just thought the left eye would be similar. With the right eye there was no pain and I could see 20/20 almost immediately after you removed the bandage and gauze. That was not so with the left side.

After awhile I decided that you were right and sometimes one eye just cannot be the same as the other. And so I fell into a gloomy aleit and acceptance of the way things were. Karma is karma, and all that.

Well guess what, over the last couple of months the eye began to clear up. In fact it is so sharp now, almost a year later, that, at times, I'm not even sure if it is better than the right eye. In reality they are both the same and I can see clearly now forever. This is some kind of great experience and I just want you to know that you did a splendid job. Thank you very, very much for your knowledge, wonderful hands, great supporting staff and your professionalism.

Sincerely and gratefully,
Randy Bird

When I found out that I needed cataract surgery, I was terrified!  Due to my apprehension, I postponed surgery for two or more years.  My main fear was that I had to be aware of what was going on during the procedure.  I didn't want to know everything that was happening.

To my pleasant surprise, I was not aware of anything happening during the surgical procedure.  The office personal and surgical team was wonderful in every respect.  Someone called me at my home to check on me, and when I called to ask a question, they were very helpful.

After many, many years of wearing glasses or contact lens, I now have 20/20 vision with no glasses!

I can truly say that it was a wonderful experience.

Dear Dr. Nicolitz,

On February 7, 2011 I saw you for my annual eye exam. During the exam you suspected that I had a Choroidal Melanoma in my right eye. You were very gracious in that you referred me to Dr. Gregory Lewis at Retina Associates here in Jacksonville, FL. This set off a series of events that sent me to Timothy G. Murray, M.D. of the Ocular Oncology group at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami.

I saw Dr. Murray on February 23rd and underwent treatment March 22nd through March 25th. Since my treatment I've seen Dr. Murray three times. Most recently on June 29th. The results of the treatment have been amazing. I've attached a copy of the most recent visit to this letter.

For people of my age group, the word "Cancer: is a very scary thing. On the evening of February 7th, I Google Choroidal Melanoma. My worse fear was that I might lose my eye. You were the person that started everything. Your program of contacting your patients for regular eye exams is how this happened. For me to wind up being under the care of Dr. Murray, who I consider the best possible physician in the world for my condition, is nothing short of a miracle. The words 'Thank you' does not come close to expressing how I feel. This has not been an easy path to follow. At times there was a great deal of discomfort however, the outcome is more than worth it. Thank you for being the right person that I needed when I needed it the most.

Warmest regards,

Robert W. Hammesfahr

I am sending this to show the appreciation for the care I recently received by Nicolitz Eye Consultants.

On May 31, 2012 Dr. Ernst Nicolitz, M.D. performed eye lid surgery on me.

My treatment started on May 23, 2012 when the efficient administrative staff verified all of my medical requirements were in order - including a physical and EKG.  From the beginning,  all of the administrative staff were very friendly, and realizing this was an "every day" work for them - it was good to be treated that way.  Also on that day I received many examinations from very proficient technicians.  One thing that impressed me is that there was not very much "down or wait" time between examinations.  At the end of the examinations, I met Dr. Nicolitz and his nurse Trina.  They examined my eyes to see if I really needed the surgery.  Both of them explained everything to me, including a diagram of what would be accomplished by having the surgery, and approximately how long it would take start to finish.  Trina gave me a list of drugs to use on my eyes and eyelids prior to surgery.

Pre-Op went very smoothly.  My two nurses, Kathy and Jo (who went into the O.R. with me) got me prepped very quickly..Both of them were professional in their jobs, and  helped relieve some of the apprehension that is normal for a patient to have entering surgery.

Dr. Nicolitz, Trina, and Jo were among many of the staff in the O.R.  The surgery went very smooth for me.  I don't know if the surgery is simple surgery to them, but to me, any surgery is serious and I know Dr Nic and his staff are that way in everything they do.  I had complete trust in them and that could be attributed to the relationship they formed with me during various stages leading up to the surgery. The surgery was a success and my eyes today are the proof I needed it.

Post-Op was just as smooth as pre-op.  My nurses were Kathy and Jill - with Jill being the one who took me to my car.  Both of these nurses were efficient, friendly and professional  with great personalities.  I told both of them, we needed to quit meeting this way.

On July 2nd, 2012 I returned to be examined by Dr. Nicolitz and have sutures removed by Trina.

My entire experience with the Nicolitz's Eye Consultants was a positive experience, with which I am greatly pleased and I would highly recommend their services to anyone needing any type of eye surgery.

Thank You Dr. Nicolitz, Trina, Kathy, Jo, and Jill and all associated with my case.
