Dr. Lenka Champion joined the staff of Nicolitz Eye Consultants in 2005.  She is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, as well as a certified Visx Laser Refractive Surgeon.  She has extensive refractive surgery experience with the U.S. Navy, NAS Jacksonville, and the University of Florida, Shands Gainesville.  She is trained and experienced in the most advanced no-stitch cataract surgery, including LenSx Femtosecond Laser assisted cataract surgery.  This new technology allows her to offer patients a bladeless and personalized surgical experience.  She also performs laser glaucoma surgery using the SLT laser.

Dr. Champion started her education by earning a prestigious International Baccalaureate diploma, and continued on to complete her undergraduate studies at the University of North Florida, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree.  Her honors included the International Baccalaureate Presidential Scholarship, ER Bernhard Trust Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service, and the University of North Florida Student Caring Award.  She was awarded her Doctorate of Medicine with Honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville in 2001.  While in medical school, she was nominated for membership to Alpha Omega Alpha, a national honor society.  She also earned the HM Hill Scholarship, a merit based award.  She was accepted for internship at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in 2001.  Her post graduate studies continued at the University of Florida in Gainesville (2002-2005), where she spend most of her time learning the techniques of advanced cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. Champion is an active member of several organizations including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Florida Medical Society, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and Duval County Medical Society.  She continues to be actively involved in ophthalmology research on cataracts, and effects of systemic medications on cataract formation.  She has also been an investigator in studies on diabetic and drug induced retinopathy.   She published papers in medical and ophthalmic journals, and has presented scientific papers at the Annual Research Symposium at the University of Florida School of Medicine.

Dr. Champion is on active medical staff at the Department of Ophthalmology  St Vincent’s Southside hospital.  In 2008 she was named one of Northeast Florida’s Top Medical Professionals in Jacksonville Magazine’s “Top Docs” Issue.  From 2005 to 2009 she served as one of volunteer ophthalmologists for Jacksonville’s Gift of Sight Program 2005-2009.
